SOAP disappears from NetSuite: prepare to move to REST

Oracle NetSuite has announced that SOAP Web services are phasing out. What does this mean for your organization, and how do you thoughtfully prepare for it?

NetSuite has announced that SOAP Web services will disappear completely in the next few years. Whereas SOAP was the standard for integrations with NetSuite for many years, the focus is now entirely on modern REST Web services. This means that organizations still using SOAP will have to take steps toward migration in the coming years.

Important to know: the first changes will come as early as 2026, when new SOAP integrations will no longer be supported. In 2027, support will be phased out further, and in 2028 SOAP will end for good. So the move to REST is not a distant future, but something you can quietly anticipate now.

At Fortiqo, we follow these developments closely. As an integration specialist, we help our customers and organizations to move from SOAP to REST, so that integrations remain secure, stable and future-proof.

"As of 2026, new SOAP integrations will no longer be supported. The move to REST is getting closer."

What are SOAP and REST anyway?

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)

Is a now obsolete protocol, based on strict standards. Reliable, but inflexible and technically obsolete.

REST (Representational State Transfer)

Is lighter, faster and easier to use. It is the modern standard for APIs and is being actively developed within NetSuite.

The phase-out of SOAP explained step by step

The phase-out proceeds in steps. Companies that plan in time have the most control over their migration and enjoy the benefits of REST sooner.

  • 2025.2: Last SOAP endpoint in NetSuite
  • 2026.1: New integrations should be built on REST and OAuth 2.0.
  • 2027.1: New SOAP integrations are no longer supported.
  • 2028.2: SOAP stops completely: existing integrations will no longer work.

Those who are still using SOAP today will therefore have to switch over in good time to prevent links and business processes from grinding to a halt later.

Why is NetSuite discontinuing SOAP Web services?

This decision by NetSuite is not unexpected. SOAP Web services have long lagged behind technology standards and no longer support the latest features.

For example, no new records have been added for years, the connection to SuiteAnalytics and SuiteScript 2.x is missing, and SOAP continues to use token-based authentication.

The benefits of REST web services

Safety

OAuth 2.0 for modern, robust authentication.

Speed

REST is lightweight and aligns with the latest NetSuite features.

Flexibility

RESTlets provide a solution where functionality is still lacking.
